Gorgeous colors in this 1991 signed original 14X11" representational pastel titled "Don Quixote and Sancho Panza in their Wanderings", by Jerzy Kajetanski. The artist was a Holocaust survivor from Poland and a Columbia resident in his later years. See bio below. The colors are magnificent! Double matted, the overall size in its black metal frame is 23"X20". The sticker on the back provides provenance from a show. JERZY KAJETANSKI 1913 – 1999 was an immigrant from Poland who lived in Columbia, Maryland for the last 11 years of his life. He had been a graduate student at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts when Hitler’s forces invaded the country in 1939. He took part in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, was captured, and escaped from an SS firing squad. He produced thousands of works ranging from memories of the war to delightful small sketches in all sorts of media to 4 x 6 foot abstract expressionist oils. From 1956 to 1988 he showed with the American Abstract Artists in New York City. His daughter donated 42 of his works to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. The bulk of his representational work consisted of anything that he saw and enjoyed -- from landscapes, including that of Columbia, to the antics of cats, to the interesting faces and physiques of people. In our geographic area Kajetanski’s work was shown by The Bernice Kish Gallery at Slayton House, The Columbia Art Center, HoCo Community College, The Howard County Art Center, The Oella Gallery in Howard County, Paper Rock Scissors Gallery, and the Amalie Rothschild Gallery at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. ________________ 2blackdogs is pleased to support CEI’s inaugural Harvest Gala auction. 2blackdogz donates all proceeds from the on-line sale of its inventory to charities that support animal welfare, ecology, and the environment.
