Acrylic on both sides of a single wood panel. This expressive and highly original folk-art work is by self-taught Atlanta outsider artist Willie Jinks (1921–2012), one of the best-known members of the “Rolling Nowhere” group of artists from Georgia. Painted in his signature improvisational style, each side of the panel features a different composition blending humor, storytelling, and symbolic imagery. Jinks’ paintings have been featured in museum exhibitions of Southern outsider art, including the High Museum of Art and the American Folk Art Museum. Works by Jinks are increasingly sought after by collectors of African American vernacular and self-taught art. This rare double-sided example displays both his whimsical characters and abstract color fields, representing the energy and originality of his mature period. Framed for two-sided display.
